A Wedding at a…Summer Camp?!

Woodmont Day Camp – Rockland County, NY

From the first time I met Jenna and Zach, they made it clear they weren’t planning a typical wedding. There would be no white dress or bridesmaids and groomsmen. Heck, she didn’t even want an engagement ring. It would be a fun, lighthearted, daytime affair at a legit summer camp. And not just any summer camp, the summer camp they both attended as kids! 🥹

With the help of Spark Group, they were able to transform the existing structures at the camp into the perfect summer wedding venue. The palette was colorful, the dress code was casual, and the menu was unfussy and filled with fun surprises (Jello shot, anyone?). Zach, a recent graphic design grad, created all of the logos and signage used around the venue. They even used his design on t-shirts printed on-site for guests to take home.

Their ceremony under a custom made chuppah was Jewish, with a modern slant. They read their own vows, and at the end they both stepped on a glass, before being paraded towards the reception by a brass band (iconic).

The minimal formalities included beautiful speeches by parents and siblings, a first dance, and a raucous hora. In between, guests had their pick of lawn games, crafts and other camp favorites to choose from. The final act of the day was a highly anticipated kickball game. Due to lingering PTSD from elementary school gym class, I opted to skip that part.
