Housing Works Bookstore Wedding

wedding portrait in freemans alley

SoHo – New York City

Disclaimer, this might be my favorite wedding I’ve ever photographed.  Besides the fact that Jamie & Adam are just about the nicest people ever, they got married in a bookstore (I love books!), they exited their ceremony to “There goes my man” by The Pixies (personal fav!), and they actually said to me “we don’t care too much about formal pictures, we just want some really cool shots of us” (music to my ears).

Everything from the venue (Housing Works Bookstore) to the food (fried chicken courtesy of Pies ‘n’ Thighs) was unique and low key. This includes their positive attitudes about traipsing through the streets of Soho in balmy, May drizzle.  After getting ready at a nearby AirBnB, our first stop was their first look in Freeman’s Alley. We set off on foot, with umbrellas and a smile. The colorful murals lended some much needed color to a very gray afternoon. We kept the portraits loose and fun, as we made our way to the venue. Stopping along the way to shoot in front of an interesting facade or street art.

After a quick round of informal family pictures, a ketubah signing in the sort-of-creepy basement, and a laughter filled ceremony, the lights went down and the party got started. The night ended fittingly, to a rousing rendition of “New York, New York”, leg kicks and all.
